Statement of Confidentiality

Through the survey and research process, Best Companies Group (BCG) will be collecting, analyzing and evaluating company data and other sensitive information.  BCG is committed to upholding the highest levels of confidentiality with regard to participation and collected information.

BCG only uses the employee email addresses for the purposes of sending the Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey invitations.  BCG does not sell or trade the email addresses to any third party for any reason. Submitted email addresses are retained for one year for the purposes of implementing Pulse12 surveys. After that time the addresses are deleted.

At no time will individual or company specific information and data gathered through the Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey or Pulse12 be released to any third party, for any reason, without the advance written permission of the company.  Data collected from the group as a whole, through the employee survey process will be used in group benchmarking reports and for trending purposes.

For the sole purposes of publishing “Best” lists and special sections, BCG will provide the authorized media partner with employer information to assist with the development of the special publication, Web site and/or recognition event.  The information released will be limited to the data gathered by the Employer Questionnaire.  Any such information used in a public forum will be positive in nature and will only reflect positively on the company.

Information regarding the participation of a company in current or prior years will not be released unless the company has made the list and that distinction has been made public.

Report Options

While determining who made "the list" is very exciting and extremely beneficial to the ranked companies, the Best Companies Group Employee Feedback Report is where additional value lies. All participating companies may purchase this in-depth report by Best Companies Group, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of their workplace according to what their employees had to say. The report is used to identify the opportunities that exist to build a better workplace. Please see the report description below.

Assessment Process

Best Companies Group conducts a simple yet thorough company assessment.  The assessment is a two-part process designed to gather detailed data about each participating company.  In part one, the employer completes a questionnaire and in part two, employees of the company complete an employee survey.

The collected information from the two instruments will be combined to produce a detailed set of data enabling the analysts to determine the strengths and opportunities of the participating companies.  The workplaces are ranked based on this data.

Part I - Employer Benefits & Policies Questionnaire  (click for sample )  REVISED FOR 2018!

Each company must complete the Employer Benefits & Policies Questionnaire. The employer questionnaire is where important information is captured about company policies, practices and demographics. This portion of the assessment is sent after the registration deadline and is due before the employee surveys (Part II) are sent. Please refer to the Timeline  for more information.

The employer questionnaire is sent to the primary contact electronically and is completed and submitted online.

Part II - Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey ( click for sample )  Revised Age Demographic for 2018

The Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey (employee survey) consists of approximately 78 statements that employees respond to on a five point agreement scale. The survey also includes two open-ended questions and seven demographic questions. 

The results are analyzed and categorized according to 8 Core Focus Areas: Leadership and Planning, Corporate Culture and Communications, Role Satisfaction, Work Environment, Relationship with Supervisor, Training, Development and Resources, Pay and Benefits, and Overall Engagement.

Survey Process

Online or Traditional Paper? Best Companies Group conducts the majority of the employee surveys online. However, paper-based surveys are available at an additional cost for companies that do not have email addresses for at least 70% of their employees.

For the online survey, companies will be asked to submit a list of all eligible employee email addresses via an upload portal. (Best Companies Group will perform the random selection for online companies having over 250 employees.) Each employee will receive a unique link via the submitted email to complete the survey. If some employees (up to 30%) do not have company email addresses, Best Companies Group can provide them with access codes to take the survey online. Number of employees being surveyed

Best Companies Group will survey up to 400 randomly selected employees in a company depending on company size. The chart below lists how many employees will be randomly selected to participate.

We encourage all companies to use the free online survey process. However, if the online survey process will not work for your company, we offer a traditional paper based survey option. The chart below lists the fees for the paper survey evaluation process.

(1) A nominal non-refundable paper fee to cover the cost of printing, processing and shipping the paper surveys. (2) To ensure the credibility of the information, companies with 15-24 employees must have an 80% (or better) response rate to be considered for the list. (3) Employees are randomly selected. Best Companies Group offers the option to survey more employees than the random sample calculated in the above chart, and/or include additional employees in the survey process who work in locations outside of the program area. The two data sets are combined and analyzed to determine the rankings. All participating companies have the opportunity to purchase the results of the employee survey, in the form of the Employee Feedback Report. To be eligible for consideration, companies must meet the following criteria:

  • Publicly or privately held business
  • For-profit, not-for-profit business or government entity
  • Facility in Central Florida (Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia County)
  • Minimum of 15 full-time or part-time employees working in Central Florida*
  • In business a minimum of 1 year

* To ensure credibility, organizations having 15-24 employees must have an 80% or better response rate on the employee survey. Temporary, per diem, PRN, seasonal, 1099 employees, independent contractors, non-employee real estate agents, consultants, interns and volunteers are not counted in the number of employees or included in the survey process. For staffing companies, employees who are placed with other organizations are not eligible.
